Update on Wayward

I've been emailing my editor and it's looking more and more like she's going to need another week or two. She needs more time to turn my dunsky English into something that people can understand. Since this is a huge killjoy to you guys, I'm going to give away the first act on what should have been the release date, for free, to give you a nice teaser into the rest of the book.

I'd like to make clear that this isn't Ashley's fault at all, if anything, I'm to blame for writing like a blindfolded monkey. I don't want to do a pre-edit release of the whole thing for $$$ since we had some issues with grammar and spelling the first time. I mean, you look at the thing for so long that the simplest things slip past. It is kind of fun to have Ashley emailing me, "Is the quartermaster of the Lady's Nightmare called Mr. Plancks or Mr. Picklett?" Fun and surreal.

  1. A thought occurred to me. As bad as I and I'm sure all your fans are screaming and throwing tantrums over Wayward when it is released you might get one day of peace until were crying over book 3. So I really hope you've gotten something in mind.

  2. Oh yeah. I've got a rough outline setup with a five act structure, the first 50 or so pages written already (though it's kind of a narrative mess that would make Tarantino proud), and a solid idea for the ending.

And I have a ton of scenes in my head, ready to go.

The idea is to have something different, thematically, than Villain or Wayward. It would show the next step in his transition from what he was, to what he will be, but in typical Blackjack way.

The response to Blackjack has been something amazing and humbling and motivating. I wrote book 2 in about half the time it took me to put together book 1, and I figure I'll do book 3 about as fast. So throw your tantrums and scream all you want, it just pushes me to go faster, and for my part, I'm having the time of my life writing Blackjack.

  3. That is reassuring to hear. I hope Blackjacks series will be a long one. I never read superhero novels before Blackjack. I thought they would be mainly for children but your hardcore from the shadows antihero growing into someone his father could be proud of is an EPIC read. Keep it up. But you know.........faster. : )
