  1. Forget M. Night Shamwhatever your the new king of the Twist. Now get started on book 3. Wayward has just made me hunger for more. Chop chop quick like a bunny sooner rather than later.

  2. Liked the first one, waited impatiently for the second. Good stuff. I think the overall high points might still be the first two team vs. team fight scenes (from the first one) and everything with Apogee.

Are you planning to end the series with 3, or keep going?

  3. You'll probably quit the Blackjack story line after Blackjack Hero but then you have an entire world of heros the write about. An old hero or a young one with Blackjack maybe making a Camio appearance. But I really really REALLY hope I'm wrong. Blackjack is a great character I say treat him like Jim Butchers Harry Dresden and keep crankin them out. I'm sure you can do it.

  4. The plan is nebulous at the moment, but the idea was to do three. Based on the response to Wayward, I'm tempted to stretch that out to five books.

Like DiBs suggests, the world is setup for something else to follow, something more modest. The problem with Blackjack is how big things are. It's writing Hulk and making it interesting every issue. I think there's 5-6, maybe 7 books in Blackjack. Who knows how elaborate the Lightbringers thing can get.

Oh, the Lightbringers are coming sooner than you thought...

  5. Let me just clarify something, when I say more modest, I mean another character within the same set world...

Anyone stand out that might be interesting?

  6. Maybe you could try a female character. I really liked Focus and Ruby. Ruby's power was really cool and Focus could use more depth. Maybe Blackjack leaves Battle and you could pick up the story arc from Focus point of view. Shes young and an upcoming heroin. That would be a kick ass story line and that could lead to Blackjack making an appearance. There's only so long a character like Blackjack can be the main character. Hes already saved the world twice beaten the biggest and the best. After he finally makes that last leap to being THE hero how much more growth is there for him?

  7. One way you could freshen things up.is maybe throw in a child. You got to admit Blackjack and Clair did some serious humpin and maybe being an extremely powerful witch and a little in love with Blackjack she created a child. I say created because in the story she is depicted as a life syphoning corpse. But she falls for Blackjack and uses his DNA and her magic to create a child but being what she is she finds it difficult not sucking the life from the child. So what does she do? She finds Blackjack hopefully while hes with Apogee and hands the child over says this is yours and Apogee stands there looking at him like WHAT THE F@$K!

  8. This was a great read. There's no way you can simply go from pure evil in public perception to hero and this is a good bridging novel though the sheer amount of damage the poor man sustains make me winch. Bullets might bounce off him but he's not truly invulnerable. I'm really looking forward to book 3 now.

Hey, you keep writing 'em, I'll keep buying 'em. You could probably charge more too.

One of the good things about the Lightbringers is that they're a ready source of other high-level powers; if there's more contact between them and Earth, it seems like an easy way to generate people who can challenge Blackjack.

For a more modest series set in the same world, I like the idea of starting where Blackjack did (bush league villain with potential), and spending more time at the early stages.

One thing I've been wondering about for a while--did we ever find out whether, back in the first book during Blackjack and Apogee's sojourn, Apogee was lying about Zundergrub's suicide switch? I thought it would be an interesting twist if that was just something she was making up to keep Blackjack from ditching her (can't save someone if he loses you), but I don't remember seeing it come up afterward.

  10. CONTAINS SPOILER.......Or maybe the suicide switch WAS real and activated shortly after Zundergrubs death. So Apogee dies. Would that cause Blackjack to regress or provide a life long ideal for him. To be the man that Apogee knew he could be. Personally I hope there is some kind of resolution that includes Apogee but maybe Ben has a little drama in store for us.
